As well as being an avid collector of early Derby porcelain, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote one of the key reference works on the subject - 'Derby Porcelain, The Golden Years 1750-1770' published in 1983. A number of the pieces illustrated in the book will be offered for sale.

The applied flowers are the same as those seen on the bases of the so-called 'Pale Family' figures produced in the factory c. 1756-8.

There is a filled chip to the edge of the foot, numerous losses to the applied flowers and ribbons. There is wear/flaking to the enamels and an area of burnt glaze above the chicken. Fritting around the foot.
