A rare Chinese archaistic bronze censer and cover, Xuande fifteen character mark but 19th century, cast with taotie masks, the pierced cover with bats and dragon finial, on three zoomorphic legs, H. 62.5cm

One of the horns is missing from the dragon's head on the cover. There is a acting indentation to the rim of the cover which has black wax filler in it. There are casting imperfections to the body which have been repaired in manufacture with some patching visible to the interior and occasionally to the exterior. Wear to the bottom of the feet consistent with age and use.
