As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.


There is some heavy crazing to the glaze on all of the items, the milk jug has a tiny overgilded firing crack to one side of the spout and a similar firing crack to the top of the handle, the teapot has tea staining to the interior, a star crack on the interior just below the perforations for the spout and a couple of firing cracks to the inner rim and some heavy tea staining around the inner rim and spout and handle. The sucrier and cover has some staining to the inner rim and handles and also to the edge of the cover, all of the cups, saucers and slops bowl have some light brown staining or discolouration to the exterior and underneath, two of the cake plates have wear to the gilding around the central floral bouquet and the third example has discoloured restoration to the foot rim and border.
