An early 18th century burr walnut bureau bookcase, W.3ft 3in. D.1ft 10in. H.7ft

An early 18th century burr walnut bureau bookcase, with bevelled mirrored doors enclosing adjustable shelves and three short drawers over candle slides, fall enclosing pigeon holes and drawers, two short and three graduated long drawers, on bracket feet, W.3ft 3in. D.1ft 10in. H.7ft
Estimate £2,000-3,000

Overall of a good well restored appearance, with a rich even colour, cornice probably later or at least reconstructed, mirror plates either re-silvered or later, doors enclose two adjustable shelves and three short drawers, lock looks to be original, key works for both the upper doors and the slope, a fine crack starting to appears horizontally across the slope. Old leather skiver with some scuffing but not original, both short drawers look to have had some re-veneering to either side. The three graduated drawers all show concealment of originally having single drop handles, the current ones being later replacements, bracket feet look to be later, backboards to the bookcase top appear to be pine where the backing to the bureau is ok - may well suggest that the piece is a marriage, please ask for additional photographs if required.
