Lot 572 , William Warman (1806–1875) Portraits Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, 13 x 9in.
William Warman (1806–1875)
pair of watercolours,
Portraits Queen Victoria and Prince Albert,
signed,
13 x 9in.
Estimate £150-200
Watercolours on paper. Victoria - paper has slightly discoloured, it can be seen that at one time these had octagonal mounts with the formerly concealed paper showing a little lighter than elsewhere, colours of the paint still fairly strong but no doubt some fading particularly noted in the rose in her hair, a number of fine scattered fox marks throughout the work along with some dirt specks, signed in pencil lower left, under glass in later ornate gilt scroll frames.
Albert is in less good condition with perhaps more notable fading although the colours still remain fairly strong and more noted discolouration of the ground paper, again the corners show where a different mount was one used, foxing also a little heavier on this work, the signature is lower right.
both works look rather flat and may well be laid down. Both frames show some cracking in the corners.
Comes for sale from a local private collection. We are selling these as being fully authenticated as original watercolours by Warman.
If shipping abroad we would recommend these are removed from the frames which are very heavy and would greatly increase the cost of shipping.
