Lot 1174 , William Pitt (1855-1918) Norton Bridge, Devonshire, 26 x 50in.
William Pitt (1855-1918)
oil on canvas,
'Norton Bridge, Devonshire',
monogrammed and dated 1858,
26 x 50in.
Estimate £800-1,200
Oil on canvas cleaned and relined within the past 10 years or so, paint now remains clean, some signs of fine but stable craquelure running through the blue of the sky, not so much elsewhere, slight stretcher marks showing vertically in the centre, one small dented bulge showing towards the lower right corner, a little retouching around the margins, this may just be where it has slipped in the frame, monogrammed on the lower left, in a later gilt scroll frame which suffers a few cracks but is basically in fair order, title plaque applied to the front.
