Gregory - To the Alps of Chinese Tibet, An Account of a Journey of Exploration up to and among the Snow-Clad Mountains of the Tibetan Frontier, 1st edition with 25 black and white illustrations, 7 sketch maps and a folding map at rear, adverts, 8vo, publisher’s original yellow/brown cloth covers with titles in black on the spine, Seeley, Service & Co. Limited, London, 1923 Note: This account describes one of the early 20th-century treks to China and Tibet. The remarkable journey aimed to investigate the mountain structures of northwest Yunnan and west Sichuan, measure the heights of certain peaks, and conduct a geological survey of the contours. The Gregorys travelled from Bhamo in Burma to Rangoon and Likiang (Lijiang) in China's Yunnan province, and back again. They crossed the Mekong-Salween divide, the mountain ranges cresting the Mekong Valley, and the great gorges of the Upper Yangtze, walking approximately 1,500 miles (2,400 km) through Burma to southwestern China and Chinese Tibet.
