Van Cleef & Arpels, a styptor and enamel charm, 'Trois Inseparables', circa 1933, depicting a soldier and a hunchback riding a white horse, in varicoloured enamel, length 3cm including bail, signed VCA, stamped DEPOSE, losses to enamel, bail possibly later, gross weight approximately 1.8 grams

This charm refers to a popular Parisian saying: 'sur le Pont-Neuf, tu rencontreras toujours un soldat, un cheval blanc et un bossu'. 'On the Pont Neuf, you'll always meet a soldier, a white horse and a hunchback'. Seeing one of each in one trip across the bridge was held by Parisians to be a sign of good luck.
