Two carved oak misericord panel fragments, 15th/16th century,
the largest carved with as a beast with a man’s head, eagle body and wings snd serpent tail and neck, the second with a woman attempting to remove a man’s shoe,
the longest 40 x 17cm.

Condition:
The larger Misericord has probably been cut down slightly in size but appears to have all of the relief carving intact, with some slight chipping and losses around the edges, dark brown to copper-red patina, vacant fixing holes to the underside. The smaller Misericord is reduced in size and is made from a thinner section of timber and has losses to the lady’s left arm and general chipping and small losses around the edge. Evidence of old wormholes, dark brown/black patina with a hint of copper -red showing on some of the polished high points.
