Two Staffordshire porcelain figures of leopards, c.1830-40, L. 12.8cm and 11.5cm

Two Staffordshire porcelain figures of leopards, c.1830-40, each on mound bases, one standing before a spill vase modelled as a tree trunk, L. 12.8cm and 11.5cm
Estimate £200-300

cf. D. G. Rice, English Porcelain Animals of the 19th century, figure 149.

The first figure of the leopard standing before a tree stump has some high quality restoration to the base and around the figure's paws, no other restoration detected above this, there is some slight discolouration to the tree stump and some firing cracks visible on the back of the tree stump. The restoration is not visible on the underside of the base but there are a few overglazed shallow chips around the edge. The second figure of a leopard has some high quality restoration to the whole of the base but not on the underside of the base. There are a few shallow chips around the edge of the base but there is apparently no restoration to the figure of the leopard itself on close inspection.
