Two Rockingham porcelain figures, c.1830, the first a shepherdess feeding a sheep, incised 'No.4' only, the second a biscuit figure of a Continental peasant Paysanne de Schlier en Tyrol, impressed mark 'ROCKINGHAM WORKS BRAMELD', incised 'No.14', h. 17cm and 19.5cm, some restoration to shepherdess

As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).

Shepherdess has restoration around her neck and to her left arm, there is pale brown discolouration or burning in the manufacture to the white areas of the glaze all over, there is a chip loss to the left ear and other tiny chips to the right ear of the sheep, otherwise in reasonable condition
Biscuit figure has some tiny losses to the ribbons on her shoulder, a few small chips and losses to the ribbons on her hat, a little bit of pale brown discolouration to the back of the figure and some general grubbiness in areas, there is also a firing crack to the base of the wall on which is standing in front of and beneath her left foot in manufacture, there is a visible firing crack underneath the figure through the pierced hole in the base.
