Two Martin Brothers stoneware grotesque musician imp figures, late 19th/early 20th century, the first a seated figure playing a pipe, incised mark ‘Martin B.. Lon..’, ebonised stand total height 13.5cm, losses, the second a seated figure playing the castanets, incised marks ‘RM 1891’ to the underside and ‘Martin.’ to his rear, 12.5cm high, restoration to two toes

Condition:
The pipe/horn player has losses to the tip of his pipe, making identification of the exact nature of the pipe/horn guesswork but not believed to be a trumpet; incised script mark to his right buttock; right buttock chipped and incomplete; on ebonised plinth which may be original. The figure playing the castanets has restoration to the tips of the two middle toes on his right foot, otherwise in good condition; no plinth.
