Provenance: Sir William Clare Lees, 1st Bt. (1874-1951); thence by family descent.
Sir William was married in January 1901 and went on honeymoon to Egypt to meet his friend the Egyptologist Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie. He assisted Flinders Petrie in an archaelogical dig, discovering these shabti which he brought home as a souvenir.

Provenance: Directly from the family
The edge of the bases cannot be inspected as there are inset into wooden plinths which are held in with a metal bar at the front, there is slight discolouration to the turquoise composition, some pitting in manufacture otherwise in good condition with no restoration or cracks.
