Estimate £500-800

Provenance:
The Dennis G. Rice Collection of fine early Derby Porcelain (1750-1770)

As well as being an avid collector of early Derby porcelain, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote one of the key reference works on the subject - 'Derby Porcelain, The Golden Years 1750-1770' published in 1983. A number of the pieces illustrated in the book will be offered for sale.

Literature: cf. D.G. Rice, Derby Porcelain, pl. 84 for a slightly later version of these figures. The puce, pale green and yellow enamelling to the bases are typical of Derby figures from the first few years of Duesbury's production. The models are based on the Meissen originals modelled by Eberlein c.1745.

The group of Bacchus is ex David Hawkins, April 1977 purchased with the figure of Summer (not present in this lot) for £700.
Both of the main figures have losses to the fingers on their right hand and other typical minor losses to the flowers, leaves and grapes. Typical minor over-glazed firing imperfections. The Spring group has some fritting to the glaze on the back.
