Pastel on paper which has been laid down, some light scuffing to the left and right side margins but essentially good order, colours remain strong, one or two small fox marks but no signs of any tears or other damage, housed under museum glass in probably the original gilt gesso frame which equally is a little rubbed, old inscribed label on the back stating the Gift of Thomas Arrowsmith May 1804. Name of recipient has been erased.
Comes for sale from the collection of the late Michael Norman, and therefore is quite likely that the sitter has a connection to a Sussex Regiment,
