Lot 597 , T. Tomkins, Leominster. A George III oak eight day longcase clock, 7ft 6in.
T. Tomkins, Leominster. A George III oak eight day longcase clock, the 13 inch arch painted dial with moonphase, subsidiary seconds and date dials, 7ft 6in.
Estimate £400-600
An honest clock clearly untouched for many years, perhaps now requiring a little cosmetic attention, hood - all three finials look like later additions, timbers forming the door frame look a little grubby and have a number of old damages, cracks and repairs, brass caps to the left hand column are later replacements, colour overall is mid to deeper rich brown, panelling to the trunk and base are lighter than the hood, trunk door slightly wobbly on the hinges, central rectangular panel to the box base showing some splitting to the sides, feet certainly later, dial dirty, discoloured and certainly the original paint with some retouching near the seconds and to the centre, hands original equally flaking away their black paint, moonphase with original paint and again some minor damage but less so than the rest of the dial where many of the inner numerals are rubbed away, movement complete and was running in the property from which this clock has been removed.
Comes with pendulum, two weights, later trunk key along with an associated winding key.
In our opinion all the principal components did start life together though clearly at some stage there has been damage to the hood.
