Sketch of Lady Burne-Jones reclining beside a book
23.5 x 35.5in.
Estimate £3,000-5,000

Mostly pastel with a hint of watercolour painted on to a mid buff paper, some damp spotting showing particularly to the left hand side near 9 o'clock where there is large circular mark in the unfinished background, but other small marks scattered elsewhere, probably a little foxing elsewhere although this is hard to spot in the flecked weave of the paper, colours look strong probably some slight fading to the watercolour which appears to have been used as an outline, notably sketching in where her hands would be etc., under glass in a distinctive ornate hand painted and stencilled frame, which suffers losses to the outer gilt moulding across the top and down the right side, Christies stencil numbers verso 91N7 and 372KN, a plain paper label with the stamp number 190 and a further paper label with 7220 and what looks like old auctioneers chalk mark, thought to have been purchased from Christies many years ago, comes for sale from a local deceased estate.
