Original blue cloth with light rubbing, fading and surface marking; gilt lettering to spine generally bright. Page edges toned with scattered spotting. Internally with scattered foxing, more pronounced to endpapers, preliminaries and terminal leaves, with occasional spotting elsewhere; contents otherwise generally clean, binding sound. Original pictorial dust-jacket retaining the 10s. 6d. net price, with general toning and surface soiling, rubbing, creasing and minor chipping and wear to spine ends, corners and edges; now housed in a protective sleeve. Small area of browning to verso from historical tape repair. Later red leather fitted case with light handling wear.
