Condition:
Oil on board in honest untouched condition, would benefit from a good clean, signed lower right and housed in the original carved gilt frame, no labels verso. Provenance from the vendor as follows; After his service in World War 1, my Father-in-Law, Henry Shemilt, started a photography business in North London. He then went into frame making and rented a shop at 32 Seymour Place, off Edgware Road, Marble Arch, with his 2 elder sons. From that location he acquired many influential customers, such as Anthony Blunt, in the art and antique world. Because of this, and through reading lots of books, he acquired the knowledge to have his own collection of pictures and antiques, some of which may have come from sales held at stately homes. He retired in the early 1970s and died in 1976.
