Robert Sadler was a British artist who combined a distinguished early career in the Royal Air Force with a lifelong passion for painting before retiring from the service in the mid-1950s to devote himself fully to art. After informal art training during wartime postings in London, Turkey, Copenhagen and Washington D.C., he settled into full-time painting around 1955, initially producing bold abstract expressionist works influenced by European and American modernists before evolving his style to include landscapes, still lifes, figures and equestrian subjects. Over a career spanning more than four decades he exhibited widely in the UK and abroad, as well as holding regular solo shows from his Aldeburgh studio.
