John Litton, rector of Whittington (Whityngton) in Derbyshire, brother and heir of Thomas Litton, the son and heir of their father John Litton of Chelmorton (Chelmerdon), deceased, to John Litton, son of their brother Robert Litton of Tissington (Tyssyngton), deceased his claim to lands and tenements, rents and services in Chelmorton and Flagg in Derbyshire which he lately had by the transfer, demise and delivery of his brother Robert Litton, William Chapeleyn and William Wawkyn, and which descended to the death of his brother Thomas Litton

The printed versions of the 1569 Derbyshire visitation list arms for the Littons of Litton in Tideswell, Derbyshire (ermine on a chief indented azure three ducal coronets or) but no pedigree. They do not appear in the visitation of 1662-64. Litton is in near Chelmorton and Flagg near Buxton.

In Tideswell church is a brass commemorating Robert Lytton, shown in civilian dress, who died on 6 May 1483. A subsequent Sir Robert Lytton of Derbyshire was under-treasurer of England from 1497 until his death in 1505. His son Thomas Lytton was of Knebworth in Hertfordshire, and the ancestor of William Earle Bulwer, who assumed name Lytton by royal licence in 1811. His third son was created a baronet in 1838 and Lord Lytton of Knebworth 1866. His son became Viscount Knebworth and earl of Lytton 1880.
