Philip Thornton for Frodsham. A gilt brass cased humpback eight day carriage timepiece, the silvered engine turned dial with Roman numerals and Breguet hands, beneath a starry lunar calendar and ''Frodsham, London'' the base displaying perpetual calendar apertures for date, day and month, the fusee movement with a French lever escapement height 8in. handle down 6.75in. width 5in. depth 3.75in.

Philip Thornton of Great Haywood, Staffordshire was a highly regarded English clock specialist and cutter maker. In the immediate post war years he completed several silver cased humpbacked clocks; this first example was commissioned by Charles Frodsham & Co. Ltd. was presented to Queen Elizabeth and is now in the Royal Collection

Whe have wound the timepiece and turned the hands and the mechanism appears to be in working order. The case has occasional minor scuffs and scratches. Some wear to the feet consistent with age and use. We cannot say how long the timepiece operates for. Generally in good condition. Comes with a steel key.
