Peter Strausfeld (German / British, 1910-80), two original quad poster draughts, circa 1970s,
both watercolour and mixed media working studies
Note: Peter Strausfeld was a German-born British artist, illustrator and animator. He is best remembered for his film posters and close association with London’s leading art house cinema, the Academy Cinema, with whom he worked for 33 years, from 1947 until his death. During this time, he created over 300 posters, each printed using the trademark linocut technique.
In the early years, a maximum of 100 posters were printed for each film. By the middle of the 1970s this extended to 300, with many being pasted on the London Underground. Surviving copies of his work are therefore scarce and collectable.
The collection presented holds provenance back to the artist from a gentleman who studied at the Brighton School of Art. both approx. 75cm x 101cm
