According to Mrs Paulette Howard Johnston, Helleu's daughter, these drawings depict one of the daughters of an American family, the Kelly's, who owned a large house in Deauville before the 1st Word War. She has dated it as being done in 1914 during the World War. Ms Johnston recalled how jealous she was of Marguerite Kelly's hats which she bought at Coco Chanel's shop in Deauville. The drawings are not signed because they were framed on the verso of other Helleu drawings of the Kelly girls. The authenticity of both drawings has been confirmed by Les Amis des Paul Cesar Helleu and they will be included in the up-coming catalogue raisonne.
