Orders and medals, a KCMG and CVO to Sir Oswald Raynor Arthur (1905-1973) and a GCVO and MBE awarded to other family members comprising Order of St. Michael and St. George Knight Commanders star and neck badge, Royal Victorian Order Commander’s neck badge (CVO), an MBE to Sir Oswald’s wife Elizabeth Spring Rice (1906-1994) and an additional Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) most likely awarded in 1904 to Rt. Hon. Sir Frank Cavendish Lascelles (1841-1920) who was the maternal grandfather of Elizabeth Spring Rice.

Sir Oswald Raynor Arthur (1905-1973) was educated at Charterhouse School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University. He held the office of Commissioner of Cyprus in 1937, Chief Commissioner of Cyprus in 1948, Colonial Secretary of Bermuda between 1951 and 1954. He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1953, Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1953. He also held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Falkland Islands between 1954 and 1957 and was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1957. He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Bermuda between 1957 and 1960 and was appointed Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.) Sir Oswald also held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for East Sussex in 1962.

Condition:
The GCVO is numbered 111. All of the cases are in poor condition lacking pieces and with damp staining and damage to the velvet and ribbons where it’s been stored a cellar for decades. GCVO enamel and metal work in good condition with just some tarnish. The KCMG has some losses to the enamel on the reverse of the neck badge, The star in good order. The CVO is numbered C1184 and appears to be in good order other than the case.
