Oil on an old card like board, in fair condition, some small flakes of paint missing from the work, now showing as white specks particularly to the right of the sitter, however these are tiny and there is no signs of any other paintwork flaking, a little patch of craquelure showing above and to the right of the sitters head, along with the hint of craquelure running through the white of his stock, overall with a slightly sketchy appearance and possibly reduced in size, inscribed verso with the name Major Macleod. In an old painted frame which is now looking a little tatty.
