Lieut. General Sir John Moore (1761-1809), signed letter dated 12th July 1788, the letter relates to Ensign William Simpson deserting from the 3rd Battalion of the 60th Regiment. A later inscription to the verso of the letter states 'Simpson convicted of Felony, sentenced to be transported for 7 years', together with an unrelated letter dated 1834 regarding a property dispute
