Condition:
Oil on canvas relined 20 - 30 years ago or so, canvas remains tight, paint a little dirty with craquelure running throughout, signs of retouching particularly in the sky running from 12 - 3 o'clock, and further retouching elsewhere including his coat tails, etc which look to be rather crudely highlights in white, apparently unsigned, housed in an ornate gilt gesso frame which has been overpainted in gold and suffers numerous small scuffs and losses, old paper label verso inscribed in French '.. ringuesse ... de Largelleuse Decede 1793', Christie's stencil number NR60 on the stretcher. Measurement given relates to canvas, not frame.
