Note: Julia Margaret Cameron lived in Dimbola Lodge (now a museum and gallery) in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, from 1860 to 1875. Amongst her friends, known as the ‘’Freshwater Circle’’, were her near neighbour and Poet Laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson, the actress Ellen Terry, William Holman Hunt and Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson], author of Alice in Wonderland and many other bohemian writers, poets and artists.

Condition:
The central image appears to be in good condition, however there is evidence of a previous arched mount, now removed, with remnants of glue and some losses to the paper around the area and some colouring in which affects her right arm and hand. The bottom left corner of the margin is torn away and there is some scuffing to the paper above the arch of the image upper left.
