Lot 576 , Joseph Kent, London. A George III mahogany bracket timepiece, 12.5in.
Joseph Kent, London. A George III mahogany bracket timepiece, with silvered arabic dial, and single fusee movement with verge escapement, engraved tapered backplate and bob pendulum, 12.5in.
Estimate £250-350
Overall in honest untouched condition, case a dark colour, perhaps looking a little dirty, one split showing across the top just to the right of 12 o'clock, top handle oxidised as are the side grills, fine split running through the escutcheon and two fine splits to the right hand side of the front door along with one at 6 o'clock on the door, dial has lost much of its silvering now down to a dull bronze colour, but otherwise looks untouched, hands were once black but now rubbed, back door has no escutcheon, a crack just to the left of 12 o'clock and another one to the left of 6 o'clock and a dirty'goo' around the edges of the glass, inside movement has tapered black plate and bob pendulum possibly converted back to verge as screws at the top are non-matching and certainly one is later. Also brackets to the side look out of alignment so probably this movement is associated to the dial and case, albeit many years ago.
