Note: The three year-old racehorse, Romulus, won the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in 1962. He was owned by Charles W. Engelhard Jr, an American businessman who, as well as being a major racehorse owner, controlled an international mining and metals conglomerate. His business interests in South Africa indicate a possible connection with the artist.
