Oil on original canvas which remains in good tight condition, a hint of stretcher marks showing around the edges, appears to have been cleaned within the past 10 years or so, one slightly raised dent showing in the dark of the cloud approx 2 inches in and just up from 9 o'clock, further small spots about an inch or so up to the right of this where these appear to have been retouched and there may also be some retouching towards the top left corner, some fine but stable craquelure running through the work notably through the thicker part of the sky, signed in the lower right corner with a signature G Stainton and housed in a more recent gilt scroll frame.
Inscribed verso 'Near Harwich - George Stainton' only legible in the right light.
