Francis Tantum of Loscoe, Derbyshire. A 17th century ebonised quarter repeating bracket clock, with square brass dial, signed Roman chapter ring and false pendulum, single fusee movement with verge escapement, signed on the engraved backplate and striking on two bells, height 12.25in.

This clock looks to have been restored 20 - 30 years ago or so, the ebonising of the case is mostly of rich black tone but is looking a little worn particularly across the front of the case, brasswork all in good condition, top of the case has one or two short splits running through it and one section of lifting veneer at the back, front door shows vertical cracks running in all four corners, lock looks original but no key present, dial in good clean restored condition, both sides have short cracks running horizontally below the glazing, back door has vertical cracks in both left corners and the lower right corner, fretwork panel looks to be a later replacement, lock looks original but no key present, label inside for H. Stanley Watchmaker of Dorking, movement looks complete and is going but not tested for timekeeping, quarter repeat is working, pierced scroll panel to the top of the pendulum has been re-attached, comes with a later winding key, please see additional photographs.
