Oil on canvas cleaned relined and restored within the past 10 - 20 years or so, paint now looks a little dirty, canvas remains tight, slight stretcher marks showing along with some signs of retouching notably some small marks to the right side of his head, housed in a later gilt frame which is in good order, cutting verso from the University of Edinburgh Collection identifying the sitter.
This is an 18th century piece.
