Eugene Millet (1819-1879) for Viellard Bordeaux - an extensive Japonaise ‘Grands Oiseaux’ earthenware part dinner service, late 19th century, each piece printed and painted in bright colours with birds amid foliage in Japanese taste, some pieces with pseudo seal marks to the design, all with seal monogram mark to base ‘JV & C. Condition:
All pieces with fine crazing to the glaze and minor glaze imperfections. 21.5cm circular tureen over glazed firing crack to the base, crazing and some staining to the interior. Cover not best fit and has small glaze chip to inner rim. The small oval to rain with integral stand has a stained crack to the rim and the cover also has a stained crack to the rim. The 25 cm ‘cockerel’ bread bowl has a few small glazed chips to the edge, three stained cracks to the edge. The double lipped sauce boat with integral stand has some flaking to the enamel is on the edge and a few tiny glaze losses to the rim. 33.5cm oblong meat dish heron and frog has some staining to the grazing and a small patch of flaking to the brown enamel edge. The soup tureen is heavily stained and crazed and has a crack and a splinter chip to the foot. The cover has two large chips to the edge and inner rim with some small spot patches of staining to the inner rim. The 27.5 cm cockerel dish which may be a stand for the soup tureen has a stained crack with some slight flaking to the glaze around the area. Twenty nine 25.2cm dinner plates of which two have a small edge chip, all with some flaking to the brown enamel on the edge, some with staining. Eighteen 22.5cm side plates all with some flaking to the brown enamel around the edge, some better than others. One of the side plates has a glaze flake to the underside. Some of the plates are stained and crazed. Six soup plates all with minor manufacturing imperfections to the edge of the cavetto and with flaking to the brown edge. The 25cm footed stand is stains and crazed. 33.7cm dish has some flaking to the brown enamel on the edge. Two poissons dinner plates and footed dish in good condition.
