Lot 1199 , Emile Vernon (1872-1919) Lady picking pink roses, 25 x 19in.

Emile Vernon (1872-1919) Lady picking pink roses, 25 x 19in.

Emile Vernon (1872-1919)
oil on canvas,
Lady picking pink roses,
signed and dated 1911,
25 x 19in.
Estimate £4,000-6,000

Oil on original canvas in good untouched condition, canvas still tight, paint rather dirty with a fine but stable craquelure running through much of the paint, most notably the flesh and white dress tones, two fine diagonal lines running from the lower roses up towards the sitters necklace, these appear to part of either the weave of the canvas or the lay of the paint and may well disappear with cleaning, signed and dated lower left, a small pin hole near the signature and some slight sagging in the canvas at that point, in an old and possibly original gilt scroll frame which has suffered numerous losses and some cracking. French numerical stamp to the stretcher along with what appears to be Sothebys yellow chalk where this picture is thought to have been purchased from some years ago.
