Lot 259 , Edward Woodward of London. An early 18th century red chinoiserie lacquered eight day longcase clock, 7ft 3in.
Edward Woodward of London. An early 18th century red chinoiserie lacquered eight day longcase clock, the 12 inch arched brass dial with subsidiary seconds and date aperture, 7ft 3in.
Estimate £800-1,200
Overall this piece has seen a fair amount of restoration, the main chinoiserie panels look to be original but much of the other decorated case work looks like later decoration, dial has been cleaned and restored at some point, now just starting to show oxidisation again round the chapter ring, equally movement looks to have been overhauled in relatively recent years, backboards behind the hood are later replacements suggesting that there may have been some alteration to the case, comes with winding key, hood door key, trunk door key and two lead weights.
