ink and watercolour
'A Tiodocos, near Tylavia, April 26 11of M'
6 x 11.25in.
Estimate £700-1,000

Ink and watercolour on a very light buff toned paper, looks to be in overall very good condition, slight discolouration tones around the extreme margins where it may previously have had an overlaying mount, some dark flecks and lines are in the paper rather than on the work, colours look strong, inscriptions still a fair strength, housed in a later washline mount and slim gilt frame with label verso for Fry or Jermyn Street.
Full inscription in ink to the left hand side giving a title and date April 26 11 of M, further similar pencil inscription to the right, not actually signed by Lear, the label verso just gives the title as Beach scene in Greece. Year of painting is also not noted.
