The artist was married to the painter William Lee-Hankey. This scene offers a view across Leicester Square towards The Alhambra (on the site of what is now The Odeon Cinema) during the summer of 1919 when Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes premiered 'Le Tricorne' and 'La Boutique Fantasque' during a much celebrated three-month season.
