Issued in illustration of Professor Colvin’s Lectures on “The Painter-Engravers of Italy and the North, 1450–1550;”. A collection of unframed engravings, 17 [of 41], circa 1880, consisting:- 1. Virgin and Child enthroned within a Gothic chapel: on one side an angel, on the other a monk holding an episcopal crozier; below, a male and female pilgrim kneeling; above, behind a traceried parapet, the three Persons of the Trinity with a choir of angels. Composition designed in honour of the Virgin of Einsiedeln, a famous place of pilgrimage in Switzerland. Signed with the Gothic initial E and the date 1466. By the master “E. S.”; probably of the Swabian (Upper Rhenish) School.

2. St George and the Dragon; signed F. V. B. By Franz von Bocholt; Westphalian (Lower Rhenish) School.

3. ‘’Les trois vifs et les trois morts”; being the legend of three Kings who out hunting encountered and received warning from the spectres of three dead Kings. By an anonymous master known as the “Master of the Amsterdam Cabinet” or “Master of 1480”; School of the Netherlands.

4. Christ crucified: below, the Virgin Mary and St John. Idem.

5. Design for a censer. Idem.

6. Design for a crozier. Idem.

7. (a) “Sibylla Chimicha,” (b) “Sibylla Libica,” examples of two sets of Sibyls executed (a) in the fine manner, (b) in the broad manner, of the early Florentine School. Supposed to be engraved by Baccio Baldini after designs by Sandro Botticelli.

8. Judith with the head of Holofernes; executed in the “fine” manner of the early Florentine School. Supposed to be engraved by Baccio Baldini, certainly after a design by Sandro Botticelli.

Together with three 19th century French coloured fashion lithographs, each 37 x 28cm; a hand-coloured etching - ‘’A Cheltenham Exquisite in Full Dress, published 1819, 35.5 x 25cm, (stained); attributed to Hubard Gallery (1822-1845) two tinted silhouettes of a lady, possibly Mrs Elizabeth Rawson, one full length, 27 x 10.5cm the other bust length, 9.5 x 9cm, each cut out on card, together with a full length silhouette portrait of a gentleman, probably by the same hand, on card, 28 x 20cm., all unframed.
