Donald Smith is a British academic and curator who, in the midst of many professional commitments, has maintained his own practice as a painter, making works in which shapes hover in space, suggesting a flipping movement, with colours in the foreground, reminiscent of the Omega Workshops. Another recent Colour Space work was selected for the Summer Exhibition 2020 at the Royal Academy.

Born in Portsmouth, he studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Chelsea School of Art and was Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Ife, Nigeria. Currently he is Director of Exhibitions at Chelsea Space and Practitioner in Residence on MA Curating and Collections at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has taught and lectured at institutions including Slade; Royal College of Art; the Sorbonne, Paris; the Henry Moore Institute; Tate Britain and Serpentine Gallery. He is a trustee and former chairman of Chelsea Arts Club and Chair of Trustees of Chelsea Arts Club Trust.

Smith has exhibited at: Camden Arts Centre; Royal Academy; Walter Koenig Books and the South London Gallery amongst many others.
