Oil on original canvas which is very slightly saggy, stretcher mark showing across the top, light surface scuffing and dirt throughout the work, really only noticeably in the whitest very centre of the picture where there does appear to some rubbing in the painting on the top of the wave, a fine but stable craquelure running through much of the paint particularly the grey of the sky, this is starting to lift and flake a little particularly down the right side, further more stable craquelure running lower down in the thicker paint of the waves, unusually the signature is scratched into the paint lower left corner, housed in an old and probably original gilt frame which is in fair order.
