Note: Britten Austin was noted for his collections of stories illustrating problems for British military security arising from new weaponry and tactics. He enlisted in the London Rifle Brigade on 4 August 1914, the day war was declared on Germany, and was later attached to the Army Service Corps, 75th Training Unit. His own war-time experience became a major influence on his writing. He also had a particular interest in historical military campaigns, as reflected in 'The Road to Glory', his 1935 autobiographical novel of Napoleon.
