Austen, Jane - Pride and Prejudice, A Novel, Clarke's Cabinet Edition, 2 vols (3), 229 (3) & 247pp (lacking half titles), contemporary green half calf and marbled board, gilt and blind decorated panelled spines with red labels, marbled endpapers and edges, with the original colour-printed decorated upper wrappers bound-in, sm.8vo, H.G. Clarke & Co, 1844
Estimate £200-300

Vol 1 - slight wear head of spine and corners, some browning front blank and title, mostly clean elsewhere, the front blank band before coloured wrapper, blank at end (following p.229); Vol 2 - lower band present, but detached together with approx. 8cms. (ex. 13) of spine upper part (which has approx. 1cm. at head missing and a central tear, with slight loss, label intact), slight wear at corners; detached board has taken with it pp.241-247, inside upper hinge weak, some slight stains and creasing inside, but generally good, as Vol 1 there is a blank before upper wrapper at one end of text. Wrappers-Gilson E3: 'binding presumably as E2, but no copy in original binding has been seen'; hf titles called for (white E2), also (3) and (9) pp. after respective texts - apparently these were the publisher's lists/adverts, but not present here. The wrappers have a 'romantique' style appearance, in gold and colours, with the colour printer's name at foot - Gregory, Collins and Reynolds; being shaved from Vo. 2
