Lot 473 , Attributed to William Hoare Portrait of Lady Archibald Hamilton 24 x 18in.
Attributed to William Hoare
pastel on canvas
Portrait of Lady Archibald Hamilton
24 x 18in.
Estimate £600-800
Please see that this now has an attribution to William Hoare, this has been suggested by an expert in early 19th century pastels, who also suggests that the inscription on the back is the hand of the artist. The work itself is in fairly good order, one short tear in the paper shows running horizontally for just over an inch just to the right of her face, this can be seen with a small patched repair on the back of the work, otherwise looks to be a little scuffing lower down near the pearls at the bottom of her cleavage, housed in a later gilt scroll frame which is in fair order but has some denting to the slip.
On the reverse of the canvas in writing is "Lady Archibald Hamilton".
