Estimate £600-800

Watercolour on paper in good honest condition, paper showing undulation and not laid down but set instead with a floating mount, pencil signature and dated '57 lower right corner, colours of watercolour look good, housed in a modern oak frame, the image should be landscape shape, the signature being towards the lower right.
Provenance; private collection. Information provided by the vendor as follows;
In 2010 Waddingtons were luke warm, and the Heron sisters remained neutral. The critic and Phaidon author on Heron, Mel Gooding gave this response to the images-

I think your little watercolour is genuine: 1) why should anyone
bother to forge such a personal thing? it doesn't make any sense; 2)
it is surely a charming jeu d'esprit made quickly for his daughter
Katharine; probably at Eagles Nest (where they spent their summers at
this time), but there is nothing to clearly identify this; Katharine
would have been about six, did she have have a friend called Victoria
at this time? 3) for stylistic comparison of pictorial method at this
time see repro of Bryher, Scilly, on p. 80 dated 1951: the drawing has
a number of characteristic stylistic traits; 4) the subject is clearly
of two birds, one has landed on a branch, another is coming in to land
from above: this reading requires the signature to be inscibed
laterally in the only white space, at top right. All in all it is a
charming little work: quick, fresh, virtuosic: I doubt that an
imitator could catch its particular insouciant inexactitude (Matisse:
'Exactitude is not truth.').
