Attributed to Auguste Leopold Egg
oil on canvas
Portrait of a lady wearing a blue bonnet
oval, 11.5 x 9.5in.
Estimate £200-300

Oil on canvas which has been relined perhaps 10 - 20 years ago, canvas remains tight with a fine but stable craquelure running through much of the paint, perhaps a little wear or rubbing to the paint in the shadow of the back of her coat, and almost certainly some retouching to the cottages in the background and the blue ribbon and bonnet along with the face and the tree trunk on the left, all these areas lacking craquelure unlike the rest of the work, no sign of any signature, housed in a fairly recent gilt frame.
Attribution came from the vendor, there is a remnant of an old paper label stuck on the back giving the title as 'Maidenhood'.
