Lot 502 , Arlander Dobson, London. A George III mahogany eight day longcase clock, 7ft 6in.
Arlander Dobson, London. A George III mahogany eight day longcase clock, the 12 inch arched brass dial with silvered Roman chapter ring, strike / silent, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, movement with anchor escapement, brass pendulum and two brass weights, 7ft 6in.
Estimate £1,800-2,200
Overall case in good condition with a rich colour and good state of polish, triple eagle finials probably associated, all with some degree of oxidisation to the balls but not the eagles, brass caps to columns at the front project out slightly beyond the woodwork of the case perhaps just suggesting some alteration, quarter columns at the back of the hood have gilt plaster caps, dial looks honest and original with fair oxidisation and wear to the silvering, hands painted black some time ago, looking at the hood from the back it appears the top of the hood has been reconstructed at some point, movement complete though a little dirty and not tested for running or timekeeping. Trunk door slightly bowed with signs of old repairs to the edge moulding, split by the escutcheon and no key present, clearly this lock has been forced at some time in the past, comes with an associated winding key, iron stemmed brass pendulum and two brass cased weights. Box base showing signs of light horizontaly splitting to the central panel, overall a handsome clock that has seen some past restoration to the case and may again require some small amount of cosmetic attention.
