Lot 210 , An unusual William IV ebony and mahogany cigar cabinet
An unusual William IV ebony and mahogany cigar cabinet with rectangular top and two panelled doors enclosing ten graduated short drawers with recessed brass handles, on pad feet, 101cm wide, 37cm deep, 115cm high
£400-600
Condition:
Honest used condition, a rich reddish tone to the mahogany which has suffered from numerous scuffs, dents, small spotted stains and scratches through its life and appears never to have been repolished, a little more faded down the right hand side, original Chubb patent lock with working key, interior with remnants of hand inscribed cellotaped labels beneath some of the handles but otherwise good, scuffing around the base and feet. There is no provenance or known history about its use for cigar storage. The interior is generally clean considering its age. Linings are possibly original or old replacements and the cabinet appears to be unadapted. The bun feet are ebonised and there are no manufacturer stamps or marks evident.
