An unusual 19th century Russian figural carved wood chess set, complete with thirty two weight pieces, with 2.75 inch kings, together with a relief carved polychrome box depicting a figural scene with trade label to base for Nouveau Magasin Etranger and a Moscow address written in cyrillic

Carved and painted box appears to be in reasonable condition with minor wear, scuffs and marks in places as expected.
White side
- one bishop with some repair around the legs
- one rook with some knocks and losses around its shaped top and the finial missing
- one knight with his polearm spear missing
- other knight polearm spear is broken and other minor losses in places
- pawns - six are completely missing their polearm spears, two pawns do have the remains of the spears - two of the pawns have minor losses to their circular shields

Dark side
- one rook has minor chips around its shaped top and the finial missing
- both knights missing their polearm spears - one with minor stress crack to its base, both with minor losses to tips of horses ears
- king and queen both with minor losses around the crown areas
- two of the pawns are missing their shields, all have either the whole of the polearm spear or part of the polearm spear missing

Overall reasonable condition.
